The 10-Minute Reset: A Small Routine That Changes Everything

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you.”

— Anne Lamott

We all have those moments when the day just feels… off.
Your focus is scattered, your energy flat, and everything feels like too much.
You’re not alone — and you’re not broken.

You just need a reset.

Not a full day off, not a vacation.
Just ten minutes — intentionally used — can shift your mindset, lower your tension, and reboot your momentum.

I call it the 10-Minute Reset.
It’s small, but it works.

⏱ What Is the 10-Minute Reset?

It’s a micro-routine designed to calm the noise and bring you back to a centered, grounded state — especially when you’re mentally overloaded.

It doesn’t require any app, subscription, or equipment.
It’s just you, ten minutes, and presence.

🔁 When to Use It

  • Right after a draining meeting

  • Mid-afternoon energy crashes

  • Post-scrolling spiral on social media

  • When your to-do list starts to feel like quicksand

  • Before switching tasks or roles (like work to family time)

It’s a moment of intentional pause — to reset your mental state before moving forward.

💡 How It Works

Here’s a basic version of the 10-Minute Reset I use daily:

1. Step away from screens

Close your laptop, put your phone on airplane mode, and silence notifications.

2. Sit or stand in stillness (1–2 min)

Breathe deeply. Don’t try to fix anything. Just exist for a moment.

3. Movement (2–3 min)

Stretch. Walk in a small circle. Shake out your hands. Reconnect to your body.

4. Recenter (3–4 min)

Ask:

“What matters most for the next hour?”
This isn't about your full day — just the next block of time.
Get clear. Choose one thing.

5. Water + breath (final minute)

Drink water slowly. Take five deep breaths. Reset complete.

🔄 Optional Add-ons

  • Play soft music

  • Light a candle

  • Step outside for fresh air

  • Write down one intention

The key is presence, not productivity.

🧭 Final Thought

We overestimate what we can push through, and underestimate what a short pause can do.

This isn’t a luxury. It’s a habit of people who know their energy is more valuable than their effort.

So the next time your brain is spinning or your focus is gone, don’t power through.
Reset. Just for 10 minutes.

It might change your whole day.
